My Letter to YOU…

I know you’re going to kill me for posting these pictures, you made me take like 10,659 just to make sure I got ONE good one (you’d make the perfect modern teenage girl). That’s the thing, though, they are ALL good, because they are YOU.

You giving me the side eye…

You siting up straight, to make sure you look presentable, after you made me fix my hair…

You laughing at our funny conversations…

You being so full of life…

And you loving me…like you have for the last 33 years, without fail or hesitation (despite my less than admirable choices when it came to tattoos and school loans). I love you with every ounce of every cell in me, and I’m pretty thankful that the universe chose YOU to guide me through this crazy life.

I’ll never forget all the picnics we had at Balboa Park when I was like four years old, with the snacks you’d literally create from nothing, into these magical French appetizers that would fuel my time at the park (those same snacks you JUST packed for me on this trip home, or our panic trip to the French embassy in Los Angeles).  When you encouraged me to study abroad in France, and wrote me a million letters, that I would read over and over.  All those lunches at your apartment in Point Loma, when I had a two-hour break from classes at USD, and you’d help me with my French homework. I got all A’s (you’d think I’d be better, huh). You were the first person I told I was pregnant, and I cried because I was terrified. You’ve been there for every up and every down, even from 8,000 miles away.

33 years of nothing but serving me…selflessly…without asking for anything in return.

I’m sure not how to convey how I feel about you in words. They feel so empty sometimes, and more often than not, I end up in a puddle of tears when I try (guess what I’m doing now)…

You are my soul mate. You are my biggest fan. You are the person I need to talk to when I seek advice…as you magically know what to say (ALWAYS). You make me laugh as hard as I do with Peter, and that’s pretty darn hard to do.

And look at where I am, thanks ALL to you. In France…trying to navigate what you have taught me, and totally in awe when I realize how lucky I am…for all of it.

So just in case you didn’t know…which I suspect you do, I love you, love you, love you. Thank you for being my best buddy in the whole wide world.
